Phone as mouseOne phone, mouse and keyboard.

Getting started

  1. 1

    Connect

Open Whisper on the phone and the computer, connect them, and trust each other. The computer must be signed in with Whisper running.

  2. 2

    Open control

On Android, open the computer’s conversation and tap the Control computer icon.

  3. 3

    Start

Tap the start button at the top, then choose motion, touchpad, or keys.

Motion, touchpad, keys: switch any time.

  • Motion mouse

Tap the centre to start, then hold the phone and turn your wrist to move the pointer; tap again to pause. It needs a gyroscope and gravity sensor and falls back to the touchpad without them.

  • Touchpad

Move with one finger and tap to click; tap with two fingers to right-click and slide with two to scroll. Hold the left button and move to drag.

  • Virtual keyboard

Switch to numbers, symbols, and function keys. Tap a modifier and then a key to send combinations like Ctrl + C.

  • Type with your phone

The text field on the keyboard page uses your phone’s own input method, so other languages, emoji, and multi-line text go straight to the computer.

  • Tuned to your hand

Adjust pointer speed, scroll speed, and motion sensitivity, and recalibrate when needed.

  • Switch computers

With several computers connected, tap the computer’s name at the top to switch. One is controlled at a time.

Platforms and requirements

  • AndroidControls

The phone acts as mouse and keyboard; motion mode needs a gyroscope and gravity sensor.

  • macOSCan be controlled

Grant the Accessibility permission in System Settings.

  • WindowsCan be controlled

Works while the computer is signed in and Whisper is running.

  • LinuxCan be controlled, X11, GNOME or KDE

On Wayland, GNOME and KDE Plasma are supported. On GNOME, typing text the keyboard layout cannot produce, such as Chinese, needs the window sharing helper from Settings (GNOME 45 or later); KDE Plasma types it directly and asks for permission the first time it is controlled.

Questions

Can I see the computer’s screen on the phone?

No. The phone only sends mouse and keyboard input and never receives the picture, so it suits times when you are near the computer and can see its screen.

Can it wake the computer or sign in on the lock screen?

No. It cannot wake the computer or sign in on the lock screen.

My phone has no gyroscope. Can I still use it?

Yes. Motion mode needs a gyroscope and gravity sensor; without them the touchpad is used instead, and the keyboard works as usual.

Why did control stop?

Going back, switching away, locking the phone, or disconnecting all stop control. Return to the control page and tap start to continue.

Does it work on iPhone?

Not at the moment. Computer control is only available on Android.
