File transferSend anything,like a chat.
With your computer and phone on the same Wi-Fi, open a conversation and drop files in. Photos, videos, whole folders, any size, and none of it passes through a server.
Getting started
- 1
Connect
Open Whisper on both devices and select the other one in the device list. The first time, compare the pairing code.
- 2
Send
Type a message, or drag files and folders into the conversation. The attachment button works too.
- 3
Receive
Messages and files appear in the conversation on the other side. Images open full screen, audio plays in place, and other files open in their usual app.
Big files and whole folders, just the same.
Whole folders
The desktop app sends a folder as it is, without zipping it first, and the other side gets the same structure. If a few files fail, the message says which.
Picks up after a drop
If the connection drops partway, the transfer resumes from the last confirmed point once you reconnect.
Verified on arrival
Every file is checked with SHA-256 as it arrives. The check runs while the data streams in, so large files are not read a second time.
Send without opening a chat
Use the share menu on Android or the file context menu on desktop. Cmd + Option + V (Ctrl + Alt + V on Windows and Linux) sends what is on your clipboard.
Easy to find again
Search the text in a conversation and favorite what you reuse. When deleting messages, you can keep the files you received.
Many devices at once
One device can stay connected to several computers and phones, each with its own conversation.

Questions
Is there a size or type limit?
No. Any type and any size works, as long as there is room on the receiving device.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The two devices only need to be on the same local network, such as the same Wi-Fi or router.
Are photos compressed?
No. The original file is sent and verified on arrival, so what the other side gets is exactly what you sent.
What decides the speed?
Wi-Fi signal, device performance, and disk speed. Encryption and verification happen while the data streams, not afterwards.
